Who is Luis Rubiales?
Luis Manuel Rubiales Béjar was born on August 23, 1977. He’s a Spanish football official and used to play as a defender. He’s currently the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
While not known for being an exceptionally skilled player, Rubiales was tenacious on the field. He played only 53 matches in La Liga over three seasons, but his determination earned him the nickname “Pundonor” (Courage)
He was born in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, and grew up in Motril, Granada He spent most of his career in Spain’s Segunda División. He played for teams like Guadix CF, RCD Mallorca B, UE Lleida, Xerez CD, Levante UD (got promoted to La Liga in 2004 and 2006), and Alicante CF. He made his debut in La Liga on August 29, 2004, in a 1–1 draw against Real Sociedad.
In 2009, he signed a one-year deal with Scottish team Hamilton Academical. He didn’t play much and soon returned to Spain.
After retiring, Rubiales became the president of the Association of Spanish Footballers in March 2010. Later, in May 2018, he became the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
