Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion Give ‘Bongos’ Its Live Debut at VMAs

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion made a dazzling debut of their latest joint single “Bongos” at Tuesday’s 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
The electrifying performance began with Cardi’s grand entrance as she descended from above on a diamond ball. The two renowned artists were joined by a multitude of backup dancers, all dressed in glittering blue outfits, as they flawlessly executed their choreographed routine.
During the performance, Cardi and Megan took turns delivering their snappy verses, accompanied by a pulsating bassline, and together they energetically rapped through the chorus: “I’m going to throw it back like it’s Thursday / I’ve got cake, I’m lit, it’s my birthday.” This dynamic performance left a lasting impression on the audience.
The performance followed the tropical-themed music video for “Bongos,” directed by Tanu Muino and released on September 7. The music video has already garnered over 10 million views on YouTube. The song’s Latin-infused beats were accompanied by vibrant visuals, featuring Cardi and Megan lounging by the beach in extravagant accessories and custom outfits.
In a recent interview on Angela Yee’s “Way Up” show, Cardi disclosed that the lavish music video came with a hefty price tag, costing her over $2 million to produce. Despite the expense, it seems the video and live performance have been well-received by fans and viewers alike.

“While Cardi B has been nominated in the Best Hip-Hop category for her collaboration with GloRilla on ‘Tomorrow 2,’ Megan Thee Stallion has received three nominations for her song ‘Her,’ specifically in the categories of art direction, direction, and choreography. ‘Her’ was part of Megan’s 2022 sophomore album, ‘Traumazine,’ which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and featured radio hits like ‘Sweetest Pie’ with Dua Lipa and ‘Pressurelicious’ featuring Future.
‘Bongos’ marks Megan’s latest release since ‘Traumazine’ and is seen as a follow-up to her highly successful 2020 collaboration with Cardi B, ‘WAP.’ While Cardi B’s last full-length album was ‘Invasion of Privacy’ released in 2018, she mentioned in a recent interview with Vogue Mexico that she plans to release new solo music after achieving considerable success with collaborations like ‘WAP’ and ‘Bongos.'”
